Halloweekend

Halloweekend is upon us! This weekend will be filled with crazy costumes, scary foods, and some wild parties. If you choose to participate in any of those activities, sober or not, remember that it is still your responsibility to ask your partner for their consent.

It doesn't matter how much clothes the other person is wearing. Their costume choice is not an invitation for you to verbally harass them or touch them without their permission.

It doesn't matter how much the person has had to drink. They can choose to drink as much (or as little) as they want this weekend but that does not mean you have the green light to move forward.

It's also important to remember that using alcohol to lower someone's inhibitions so theywill hook up with you is a form of committing drug facilitated sexual assault. Don't do it!

You can still dress up, eat handfuls of Halloween candy, and enjoy the Halloween party [oh, and whatever comes after that. ;)] Just make sure you do it respectfully and with consent!

Here are some helpful questions to remember this weekend:

Do I have consent?

  • Is your partner sober enough to drive a car without getting a DUI?
  • Did your partner say "YES!"?
  • Is your partner as enthusiastic about getting down as you are?
  • Is your partner of age?
  • Is your partner mentally capable of making this decision?

If you have answered "no" or "I don't know" to any of these questions then you need to STOP. Perhaps you can try again in the morning. If the answer is no again, we encourage you to stop until your partner chooses to make a move on you. Nobody likes or deserves sexual harassment.

  • Is your partner sober enough to drive a car?
  • Is your partner awake and conscious?
  • Is your partner doing this voluntarily?
  • Is your partner as enthusiastic about getting down as you are?

If you have answered "yes" to all of these questions you are good to start! Just remember to check in throughout whatever you are doing! Consent to making out does not mean you have consent to penetrate someone. If you got the green light here are some questions to help you ask for consent!

How can I ask for consent?:

  • Can I kiss you?
  • Do you like this?
  • Do you feel comfortable doing this?
  • Is this okay?
  • How does __________ sound to you?
  • Should I get a condom?
  • What would make you feel good?

Enjoy your spooktacular Halloween and make sure you only do it with consent!
